Sports Management Students and Dr. Clay Bolton at Biltmore Championship 2026

LaGrange College sports management students recently earned a rare opportunity to work behind the scenes at the inaugural Biltmore Championship, a PGA Tour event held at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville, North Carolina.

As the only sports management program in the nation selected to assist with tournament operations, the group spent the week supporting event logistics and fan engagement efforts while gaining firsthand experience in the management of a professional sporting event.

Students worked in tournament operations and gallery management, contributing to a wide range of responsibilities that helped ensure a successful experience for players, spectators and event partners. Their duties included preparing hospitality areas, coordinating with vendors, assisting with course setup and maintaining safe, accessible pathways for tournament patrons.

The students also worked during the celebrity pro-am tournament and throughout all four rounds of championship play, providing them with an up-close look at the planning, coordination and execution required to host a PGA Tour event.

Beyond the operational experience, the opportunity allowed students to network with PGA Tour staff members and event organizers in the industry. Their professionalism and strong work ethic left a positive impression, leading organizers to invite the program to assist with future tournaments.

Dr. Bolton described the experience as “incredible,” noting the significant professional and personal growth students gained through their participation.

Experiential learning opportunities like this are a hallmark of the LaGrange College Sports Management program, giving students the chance to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings while building connections for future careers in the sports industry.

Through long hours, teamwork and a commitment to excellence, these students represented LaGrange College with distinction and demonstrated what it means to be Panther Proud.
